There are no “hard and fast” rules or simple formulas for success in your professional life. You just need to keep moving forward striving for constant learning, growth, and positive transformation, while embracing challenges equally. Throughout my career journey, I learned my lessons in unexpected packages, profoundly shaping my professional aspect. On top of that, every feedback session, and the unavoidable burnout I had during my journey imparted wisdom to me. However, what I learned from my experiences is that my teaching career is beyond a series of jobs. It reflects who I am, my aspirations, and my dream to make a meaningful impact.

From starting my online teaching career through a YouTube notification to securing a successful position at MADE EASY, everything eventually panned out the way I had desired. My passion for teaching allowed me to believe in myself and pursue my dreams with conviction. On this note, let’s explore the most impactful lessons I have learnt so far in my career –

1. Embrace continuous learning:

Embracing continuous learning is the best tool that prepares you for industry changes and trends. Dating back to the time when I was pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, I grasped a solid understanding of concepts through strategic learning. I even started mentoring IIT-JEE students to gain new skills. I desired to learn new skills that played a key role in making a successful teaching career. Furthermore, it fueled my passion for teaching those who aspire to crack the GATE, AE, and JE exams and the rest, as they say, is history. Prioritizing continuous learning will help you grow throughout your professional journey. 

2. Adapt to technology:

The latest technology is dynamically changing the world of learning around us. Its infusion has transformed both the accessibility and teaching methods in different ways. To keep up with the latest technology and trends, I focused on learning various online teaching methods. In addition, I adapted to live online classes and created well-structured content for video lectures to deliver more convenient learning. Not only content, I also focused on driving effective strategies and leading teams. It’s time to step up and embrace innovative technologies to unlock the future of online education. 

3. Stay Humble:

Whether you are in the spotlight or your skills are being acknowledged, the best thing you can do is to stay humble. Unarguably, humility will give you an edge over the others. It’s about appreciating your abilities while knowing the fact that others have also contributed. It took me two years to crack my GATE exam, and thereafter a lot of hard work and effort to reach where I am today. I am not in the right position to make assumptions about the experiences of others as everyone has his journey. Being humble encourages me to learn from my mistakes and I work towards finding my areas of improvement with a growth mindset. 

4. Deliver value beyond your paycheck:

In your professional journey, delivering exceptional work, building collaboration, and driving positive results help you experience a huge rise. Back in 2019-20, I started working for two institutes where I showcased my educational content to engage with students of the Mechanical Engineering department. Always aimed at delivering value, I started with having a solid understanding of the goals and requirements of these institutes. It helped me in aligning focus on the areas where my skills could make the most impact. Thus, if you want to deliver a massive value, you don’t have to wait for the instructions. Take the lead to find your areas of improvement, come up with better solutions, and take accountability for your responsibilities. If you want to be an invaluable asset, develop an in-depth expertise in your field. 

5. Prioritize honesty and dedication:

Honesty serves as a stepping stone upon which you define your reputation and professional success. Being honest demands you to be authentic and transparent in all aspects of your work. If you are honest enough to discuss everything openly without worrying about the repercussions, you are more likely to come up with better ideas. Not just honesty, it is also essential to showcase your dedication by staying updated with the ongoing practices and latest tools. As a media content head at MADE EASY, I work towards making the best content that is relevant and enhances student engagement.

6. Maintain a positive mindset:

Maintaining a positive mindset is not just about being optimistic; it’s about how you perceive challenges and opportunities. Shifting your mindset will help you learn something innovative and grow. Rather than focusing on the problem, you should think about how to resolve it. It helps you move forward and keep your mind positive in every situation. As an educator, I believe that my positive mindset shapes not just my experiences, but the results of the students as well. I am open to new ideas, ready to learn from my mistakes and see every challenge as a chance to improve.

7. Stay optimistic:

Staying optimistic throughout my career allowed me to experience high job satisfaction; while focusing on the joy of teaching and the impact it had on the lives of students. My engagement in professional development and prioritization of self-care helped me sustain optimism and thrive, even in difficult times. In other words, staying optimistic helps you look at the brighter side.

8. Project confidence and positivity:

Did you know that you can change the perceptions of others when you project confidence to them? As an online mentor, I have worked hard to prepare myself for situations that demand confidence, which has helped me improve my skills and reduce anxiety. Projecting confidence to others is easier when you learn from your experiences and use them to improve. Simultaneously, it is crucial to keep your negative thoughts at bay and replace them with positive ones.

9. Master communication:

Communication is a skill that influences your professional success. My teaching profession demands me to effectively convey my thoughts and ideas and drive collaboration. Communicating with my students ensures that everyone is on the same page, building a sense of purpose. 

11. Enhance your resilience:

Back when I could not crack the GATE exam on my first attempt, my resilience helped me go through the challenges, maintain motivation, and grab the opportunity. I stayed committed to my goals, even when faced with difficulties. After all, staying focused on my goal while convincing my parents to give me another chance to pursue my dream was not easy. Therefore, your ability to bounce back is important as it defines whether you stop or grow from your experience.

12. Create your good luck:

Good luck is a mysterious force that is bestowed upon a few. You can master skills and gain expertise in your area of interest, but finding the right opportunity at the right time to showcase your talent comes down to good luck.

Luckily, you have the power to create your luck and manifest what you desire. It is essential to have an open mindset and a strong belief that the universe is always in your favor. It seems trivial, but respecting your parents and keeping them happy will pay you in the long run. In addition, your small acts of kindness can make a huge difference in someone’s life – and in yours as well.
